Hudson River Homes

Efficiency meets luxury for sustainable residential developments in the Catskills of New York.

Challenge

Hudson River Homes, a NY-based residential developer, focuses on modern, mid-century-style sustainable homes. Acting as contractors, installers, and architects, they offer diverse home styles like Apollo and Holly Blue, allowing buyers to customize finishes. When starting new projects in the Catskills, contractor Zach Gumpel sought an efficient weather barrier for energy savings within budget. Tremco's Ken Lynch presented EnviroDriTM benefits and full envelope protection options from Tremco Construction Products Group (CPG). While Hudson River Homes appreciated the full system, their contractors preferred familiar products over the new offering.

Solution

To address product unfamiliarity, on-site training was conducted by Chris Thomas, Tremco field technical representative, to tighten the building envelope. For the Apollo, a system including EnviroDri barrier, Horizon TM foundation finishing, and Nudura fiber mesh was recommended. Holly Blue utilized TREMdri 160 membrane and Tremco® 2450 board.

EnviroDri, a superior weather-resistive barrier, outperforms traditional wraps, sealing the above-ground area with a sealed footing line. Horizon waterproofing closes the gap between above and below-grade waterproofing, bolstered by Nudura mesh for added strength. Improving energy efficiency by minimizing air exchange, EnviroDri’s quality and cost-effectiveness were key factors for Gumpel.

At Holly Blue, TREMdri 160 membrane, compatible with various structures, was used alongside Tremco 2450 protection board secured with TREMGrip adhesive. Consolidating products from one source simplified procurement, satisfying Hudson River Homes. With a growing real estate scene in the Catskills, they look forward to utilizing more Tremco CPG offerings.
